We don’t have to agree on anything at all, to be kind to each other. Kindness and agreement do not need to go hand in hand. It is only through our difference in opinions that we learn from each other.
Peace too comes from embracing this difference. It comes from knowing that I can put forward my views without hurting anyone and that others can put forward their views without hurting me.
You see, we lose our peace of mind when we try to make everyone believe in what we believe. What we fail to realize is that we, just like everyone else are a sum total of our experiences - experiences from our upbringing, schooling, work, finances, and so many other things.
Only once we realize this painfully obvious fact and internalize it - we will start to be truly empathetic. This empathy will lead us to the point where we are unconditionally peaceful.
In fact, it can start with us - if we constantly respond with only positive reactions and empathy no matter how insensitive and brash others are trying to be, we are creating an environment that is conducive for feedback and discussion, rather than complaints and debates, eventually creating unconditional peace in both directions.
It's a hard thing to do, but no one ever said good things in life come easy.
