Most of us never want to pay for the news. So, the publication’s earnings are purely tied to their advertising revenues which are in turn tied to their clicks and viewing time.
Just means - we are the product they’re trying to sell to advertisers. The media coverage - both locally and internationally is just geared towards just that - making you click and spend way more time than you would.
By them sensationalizing every news (mostly the bad) - they're causing psychological trauma.
I'm not saying the situation isn’t dire. But as humans, we are good at imagination, and that can be a daunting gift during a pandemic. Because - we often use it to imagine the worst-case scenario.
Remember that fear of suffering is worse than suffering itself. Keep your social media and news in check. All you need is an hour a day to keep yourself informed and be prepared for anything that needs your attention.
Spend time with family, work, or just to yourself. The pandemic gives you an opportunity to have conversations with yourself and connect with your aspirations and goals.
And if you still feel a FOMO on news and social media, just remember - you are the product being sold, and you’re not even making money off it.
